Seeing a sky full of stars is a wonderful experience for students, as few have experienced seeing the night sky without artificial lights.

At Columboola, constellations and star patterns become clearer as we are deep in the bush away from built-up areas. Students have heard of the Southern Cross, Orion's Belt, Scorpio and others - now they have the chance to observe them in the night sky.  Our dynamic program continually changes in keeping with what is visible throughout the year. 

Columboola EEC has several large telescopes for viewing the moon and constellations, as well as iPad applications which allow the students to view the constellations or planets of interest to them.  With the addition, in 2015, of our new Meade 16 " automatic tracking telescope, space has become that little bit closer!

Year 9 and 10

The universe contains features including galaxies, stars and solar systems and the Big Bang theory can be used to explain the origin of the universe (ACSSU188)

 

Senior

Earth has internally differentiated into a layered structure: a solid metallic inner core, a liquid metallic outer core and a silicate mantle and crust; the study of seismic waves and meteorites provides evidence for this structure (ACSES018)
